The Biology of Thought. Is It you making the decision's or your blood biochemistry? Can your thought change how your body works?

We said at the outset of writing this programme and developing the nutraceuticals that we had four fundamental beliefs:

1) The current science and methods for managing obesity and weight loss have flaws.

2) You have to address the causes of weight gain before you can successfully lose fat.

3) There is a link between the brain and the body but they do not always work together to achieve the outcome you want. The nutraceuticals introduce key ingredients into your blood stream to assist you on your journey. Interestingly you will discover that many of the habits and behaviors you blamed on choice, were actually your blood biochemistry misdirecting you.

4) Action comes from thought and our thinking selves need to become aware of why we may have overeaten, binged,become addicted to food types or alcohol.

This section explores the mind set you can achieve to make this journey successful and permanent.

THINK IT.

If we primarily focus on the body our experience of life will be a physical one.

We are so much more than our body yet being on a diet and focusing on our weight  limits our life experience to one of a physical dimension and anxiety associated with telling yourself you are on a diet, might lead to binge eating.

The focus becomes more and more detailed to the point that every mouthful of food and every eating situation is a constant conversation running in our head.

It’s not a way to live, yet we put ourselves in this situation on a daily basis by following a weight loss diet and weighing ourselves on a weekly basis or calculating our Basal Metabolic Rate to discover ways to decrease our calorie consumption or increase our energy expenditure. So we focus on what we don’t want and what we need to avoid or what we have to do to achieve the body we desire. When willpower is lost and diet A is no longer working we try diet B and so the cycle of yo-yo dieting starts, making weight loss and maintenance harder and harder to achieve.

But as humans we are more than our body yet this is the aspect of ourselves that we focus on the most constantly berating ourselves for failing to achieve success.

But what if we looked at this from a different direction? What if our body speaks our MIND? What if thought, feelings, emotions, beliefs have a profound effect upon our physical body and that by focusing only on the physical we lose our ability to achieve health and well being?

WHAT IF WEIGHT LOSS IS REALLY AN EMOTIONAL JOURNEY RATHER THAN AN ACTION JOURNEY?

The Law of Attraction is a belief that thoughts whether positive or negative bring positive or negative experiences into a person’s life. Therefore if we focus on what we don’t want we continue to get what we don’t want. I DON’T WANT TO BE FAT for example.

Mabel Katz, teacher of Ho’oponopono says in her book The Easiest Way to Live that, changing your weight or appearance will not solve your problems. These features are on “the outside”. What you need to change and let go of are the memories and programmes, the things you decide to believe about yourself.

A belief is an acceptance that something exists or is true, especially one without proof. So are the beliefs that you have about yourself true, or have you made them up from a repetition of the same thought?

Dr Bruce Lipton (Medical School Professor and Research Scientist) in his groundbreaking book The Biology of Belief radically changes our understanding of life. His research shows that we are not a slave to our genes and DNA, but that our cells change according to signals outside of them, from positive and negative thoughts. Therefore our bodies can be changed as we retrain our thinking. HOW POWERFUL IS THAT. In other words the body I have now will not be the body I will have in the future and I can affect my health and well being by the thoughts that I have.

If thinking affects biology what can other things can we do to improve our health?

Let’s go back to basics:

• Sleep

• Hydration

• Fun

• Connection

• Laughter

• Healthy nutrition

• Eat when hungry, stop when comfortably full

• Enjoy every mouthful

• Eat slowly

• Remove distractions

• Breath
