THE INGREDIENTS OF CHOOSE IT LOSE IT NUTRACEUTICAL PROGRAMME
5-Hydroxytryptophan is an amino-acid that is naturally produced by the body. It is used to produce the chemical messenger serotonin, which is found mostly within the digestive system and throughout the central nervous system. Serotonin is a chemical with a wide variety of functions within the body:
• Increase feeling of fullness – 5HTP counteracts feeling of constant hunger which will help with sustained weight loss.
• Inhibits the intake of calories from carbohydrate and helps to stabilise blood sugar. A stable insulin level reduces fat storing.
• Help to alleviate binge eating and overeating carbohydrate rich foods.
• Helps with depression, anxiety and elevates mood.
• Can improve sleep by increasing melatonin production – Sleep deprivation has shown to significantly increase calorie intake. Sleep deprivation is a main factor in depression.
• Regulates pain sensations.
In summary: Increasing serotonin (sometimes referred to as the body’s “feel good chemical”) has a positive effect on mood, reduces the need for carbohydrate rich foods, reduces spikes in insulin levels (fat storing hormone) and contributes to making healthy eating choices.
Native to Brazil the Acai Berry is packed full of antioxidants that combat free radical damage. Acai Berry is recognized as one of the world’s ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity) foods due to its ability to neutralize free radicals. Free radicals damage the cells and glands within the body making us prone to disease and ageing.
Acai berry is rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, C and E essential omega fatty acids and a range of trace elements. The fiber and essential fatty acids can contribute to the body’s ability to boost metabolism and burn fat more efficiently.
Acai contributes to the overall health of the body.

Calcium is the fifth most abundant element in the body that plays a vital role in many body processes.
We need calcium to build and maintain strong bones and teeth, for muscle and nerve function, blood clotting and releasing hormones to name a few. Research is now suggesting that calcium stored in fat cells plays a role in how fat is regulated and stored and suggests adequate calcium intake for the prevention of obesity.
The human body needs calcium every day and will take calcium stored within your bones if you are not taking enough dietary calcium, leading to osteoporosis over time. There are more than 300,000 fractures every year due to osteoporosis.
Chromium is an essential trace mineral, involved in protein, fat and carbohydrate metabolism, as well as improving insulin sensitivity.
It is a metallic element required in small quantities, the exact amount is unknown.
Chromium deficiencies are linked to the development of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and high cholesterol level.
Chromium Picolinate is the common form of chromium found in dietary supplements. There are potential concerns with chromium picolinate; how it is processed within the body and how it reacts with some medications. DROP IT contains the mineral Chromium ONLY.
A study in 2017 showed Chromium Picolinate supplementation decreased BMI in patients with Poly Cystic Ovarian patients.
However other published papers are conflicting. Further investigation is required.

Other studies have shown that weight gain was lessened whilst taking Forskolin.
Garcinia Cambogia is a fruit native to India and South East Asia that is exported all over the world. Hydroxycitrate acid (HCA) is the active ingredient in Garcinia Cambogia that blocks Citrare Lyase, an enzyme required for the synthesis of cholesterol, fatty acids and triglycerides.
HCA has also been shown to raise serotonin levels, the hormone that is sometimes referred to as “the happy hormone” that also makes you feel less hungry.
Researchers have identified that the diet affected results, notably that results were not as effective with a diet high in carbohydrate and low in fat.
CHOOSE IT LOSE IT 60 DAY WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAMME recommends reducing carbohydrate content and eating good quality fats.
Glucomannan is a natural water-soluble, exceptionally viscous dietary fiber extracted from the roots of the elephant yam. It has been used in Japanese cooking as a gelling agent; the Japanese have nicknamed this ingredient “the broom of the intestine”. Glucomannan absorbs water in the digestive tract which takes up space in the stomach and promotes satiety as well as delaying stomach emptying.
Glucomannan must be taken before meals to be effective with adequate amounts of water to ensure transit through the digestive system.
GLYCYRRHIZIN EXTRACT (Licorice)
Glycyrrhizin Extract is obtained from the root of the Licorice Plant. Licorice has been used in Ayurvedic medicine in the belief it may treat various diseases.
Licorice is 50 times sweeter than sugar, but unlike sugar, licorice is not believed to cause weight gain, it promotes weight loss by:
• Preventing fat production and accumulation

GREEN COFFEE BEAN EXTRACT
Unroasted coffee beans are full of antioxidants and the important ingredients Chlorogenic Acid and Caffeine. Caffeine is known to raise metabolism, whilst the compounds of Chlorogenic Acid can reduce carbohydrate and fat absorption from the intestine. This results in more stable insulin levels, (insulin is known as the fat storing hormone) and a reduction in body mass and body fat.
Caffeine, a stimulant, can lead to insomnia, nervousness, irritability and even increased heart rate, it has has been removed from SHAPE IT.
GREEN TEA LEAF EXTRACT
Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG) is the most researched catechin (plant phenol and antioxidant) in green tea and thought to provide the most health benefits. Studies have shown that green tea extract increases the antioxidant capacity of the body and protects against oxidative stress https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12587987
This also helps with exercise performance and reduces muscular fatigue.
The antioxidants in green tea extract can decrease inflammation and help inhibit fat absorption and reduce blood fat levels, as well as lower triglycerides and total and LDL cholesterol https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19838489

Gymnema Sylvestre a woody climbing shrub native to the tropical forests of India, Africa and Australia, used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years as a natural remedy for diabetes and as an anti-inflammatory, diuretic, and promoter of health lipid levels.
The benefits of Gymnema Sylvestre in the assistance of weight loss include:
• Reducing the perception of sweetness resulting in a reduction in calorie intake as sugar cravings. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6836034
• Possesses hypoglycaemic properties by helping to regulate the islet cells in the pancreas and therefore reduces blood glucose levels. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27834124
• Promoting health lipid levels, reduction in body weight and Body Mass Index. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11411567/
• Reducing inflammation (obesity and unhealthy eating increase inflammation) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3912882/
Arginine is an amino-acid that is required for the synthesis of proteins. It benefits the skin, liver, muscles and joints. It also supports the immune system and regulates blood levels.
Arginine is an essential component of the urea cycle that allows the elimination of ammonia from the body. Ammonia is a waste product. The liver turns ammonia into urea which is eliminated in urine.
Arginine also releases nitric oxide in the blood which may help with circulatory conditions as it widens blood vessels in the blood stream.
Arginine has also been shown to reduce central adiposity in obese patients. https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.3109/19390211.2013.859216 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27356939 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16524713
In order to use fat as a fuel source L-Carnitine is required to move fatty acids from the blood to the mitochondria of the cell. The role of mitochondria is to take nutrients within the cell and break them down for energy which is then used by the cell for various functions. The efficient fat burning you need L-Carnitine.
It also inhibits the build of lactic acid and like L-Ornithine reduces the accumulation of metabolic waste during exercise.
Glutamine is an important and abundant amino-acid in the body with many functions including:
• Support of the immune system
• Maintenance of intestinal mucosa, preserving the gut barrier function
• Insulin secretion
• Neurological activity
• Muscle protein synthesis.
Glutamine is essential in that it increases the amount of GABA (Gamma-aminobutyric acid) required for brain functioning and mental activity.
Plasma glutamine levels fall during fasting and in patients with untreated diabetes mellitus. In all these cases catabolic stress occurs by causing a rise in cortisol and glucagon. A drop in body glutamine will cause mucosal atrophy and a loss of muscle moss. Loss of muscle mass causes a drop in metabolism.
L-Ornithine is an amino acid responsible for the removal of waste products in the body, namely nitrogen and ammonia. A deficiency results in a buildup of these waste products which can have an impact upon health.
L-Ornithine is a precursor of arginine, necessary for the synthesis of creatine. Creatine facilitates recycling of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the energy currency of the cell and can be found primarily in muscle and brain tissue.
L-Ornithine is taken in combination with other amino-acids to enhance stamina and reduce fatigue.
Maca (Lepidium meyenii, also known as Peruvian ginseng), a hardy plant growing at high altitude in the Andes Mountains of Peru. Maca contains flavonoids (plant metabolites) which are thought to reduce anxiety and improve mood. Maca has been shown to reduce symptoms of depression in postmenopausal women. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24931003
Improving mood and reducing symptoms of depression help to relieve contributing factors of weight gain.
Maca is considered an adaptogen, in that it appears to stimulate the endocrine system (without, mostly changing hormone levels) to maintain balance.
It has also being used as a natural remedy for obesity due to its ability to enhance glucose metabolism and reduce fatigue, contributing to the reduction in body fat accumulation. Regulation of certain hormones such as Adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH), known to cause weight gain is significantly reduced with Maca thus triggering weight loss.
Maca has been described as a “super food” because it contains various minerals, vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates and fiber, all providing various nutritional benefits to the body.
Panax Ginseng has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years as an “all healing remedy”. Panax Ginseng is known as an adaptogen and has been used for:
• Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
• Boosting the immune system
Panax Ginseng is the most researched Ginseng. The word Panax shares the same origin as the word “panacea”, meaning a solution or remedy for all difficulties or diseases.
Panax Ginseng can have a neurological effect on weight control by its effect on the hypothalamus in the brain. Panax Ginseng reduces the chronic inflammation of the hypothalamus caused by a high fat diet.
Reduction in chronic inflammation of the hypothalamus:
• Reduces the secretion of the neuropeptide Y (the most potent appetite stimulant found in the brain) which stimulates food intake with a preference for carbohydrate and delays satiety.
• Improves the release of the hormone leptin that sends signals to the brain to decrease food intake and increase energy expenditure
Influence of Panax ginseng on obesity and gut microbiota in obese middle-aged Korean women.
Raspberry Ketone is a natural phenolic compound that occurs in a variety of fruits, including raspberries, cranberries and blackberries. Raspberry ketones have nothing to do with ketosis or the ketogenic diet.
An in vitro study of rat fat cells and Raspberry Ketone was shown to:
• Increase the release of adiponectin – a hormone that regulates metabolic processes such as glucose and fatty acid oxidation. Low levels of adiponectin are associated with obesity and increase with weight loss.
• Make the cells more susceptible to norepinephrine (the fat burning hormone)
Raspberry Ketone has been studied in humans as part of a combination of ingredients, alongside a reduced calorie diet and exercise for 8 weeks. Results are promising and require further investigation.
TRYPTOPHAN (Carbohydrate Blocker)
Tryptophan is the building block of serotonin. Serotonin deficiency has been implicated in cases of obesity, as it is associated with the brain's perception of hunger and satiety. Excessive intake of sugars and other carbohydrates is known to increase brain serotonin levels. By increasing serotonin levels, tryptophan can function as an appetite suppressant at low doses, and is sometimes very effective for weight loss.
Supplementing with serotonin is ineffective as serotonin cannot pass the blood-brain barrier. Tryptophan breaks down to 5-Hydroxytryptophan (the main ingredient in STOP IT), which can pass the blood-brain barrier.
TYROSINE (Stress Reducer)
Tyrosine is an amino acid responsible for production of the brain chemicals dopamine, adrenaline and norepinephrine. These brain chemicals are involved in appetite control, metabolism, stress control and performance.
The dopaminergic pathway regulates reward sensitivity. This pathway tells you when you are satisfied and helps to control appetite. Obese people overeat to compensate for the deficit in this reward system.
Tyrosine makes the hormone noradrenaline which increases blood flow and the release of energy stores.
Adrenaline is required during the fight and flight response redistributing blood to the muscles and alters the body's metabolism, to maximise blood glucose levels.
Obese people overeat to compensate for the deficit in these chemicals.
Tyrosine lowers the level of hunger and helps to regulate metabolism and stress.
